What's an editorial?

An editorial is a photography work consisting on one or more photos with a common topic or style, created mainly for artistic and personal creative purposes and not aimed to a commercial-only benefit, but to be published on magazines or websites to provide exposure to the involved artists.

Since editorials are not usually commercial works for any specific brand, the artists have complete control over the production, hence editorials are known to be the best way of discovering each artist's true style.

Although editorials are quite different from an advertising campaign, photos in editorials are often accompanied by a list of the clothing and fashion accessories used, the brand and even their retail price, so there is actually certain commercial benefit for the brands, often given in compensation of lending the clothes for the shooting.
